Leeds Art Gallery
GRR have created an iconic cultural retail and cafe space as part of the £15million refurbishment of Leeds City Art Gallery.
The exciting and unique aspect to this brief was the unveiling of the Victorian Tiled Hall. It is more than half a century since the hall has been opened up to the public, where colourful Victorian tilework, marble columns and a beautiful oak, ebony and walnut parquet floor have all been lovingly restored.
Originally opening in 1844, we took inspiration from traditionally-derived materials and processes to produce a scheme which was completely sympathetic to such an unusual historic and artistic setting.
